The Inside Scoop by our Local Expert
Whether you're leaving the country or just entering the state, Sacramento International Airport is the place you want to be. Located in beautiful Sacramento, California, the airport was first known as the Sacramento Metropolitan Airport when it opened its runways in the late 1960s. Since then the airport has undergone a name change and plenty of growth becoming a destination for international flights in 2002.In fact, today the Sacramento International Airport is home to 14 major airline carriers and one commuter airline and boasts two 8,600-feet runways. On an average day, the airport sees more than 150 departures and in 2006 over 10 million passengers flew in and/or out of Sacramento International Airport. Between flights many passengers can be caught snacking at on-site restaurants and eateries such as Cinnabon, Manchu Wok, Starbucks, Sbarros, and TCBY—or visiting stores such as Wolfgang Puck Express, Brooks Brothers, Nelson's Books, and the children's store KidZoo. Although the Sacramento International Airport is located 12 miles northwest of downtown Sacramento, it is conveniently located near communities such as Roseville, Stockton, Napa, Fairfield, Lincoln, Yuba City, Marysville, and Woodland.
