Novotel Canberra is ISO14001 certified. This provides direct solutions to the planet’s main environmental problems, including climate change, waste reduction and the management of non-renewable resources.
THE NATIONAL ARBORETUM CANBERRA
Novotel Canberra is a proud 'Friend' of the National Arboretum. The Arboretum is being constructed after the 2003 Canberra bushfires.
The National Arboretum Canberra will feature different types of threatened and symbolic trees from around Australia and the world, and in the longer term present a sensational mosaic of permanent gardens. It provides an opportunity to conserve threatened species, a place for community recreation and a valuable resource for ongoing education and research. There will be a visitors centre, bonsai pavilion, artworks, a café/restaurant, reflective pavilion and a range of other facilities to provide an exciting experience for visitors. These will develop over time.
The hotel's major project is to assist in the redevelopment of the forest destroyed in the 2001 and 2003 Canberra bushfires. With this in mind the hotel has been allocated a 'Rocky Knoll'. By concentrating volunteer activities on a knoll, replacing what is a “weed bank” with Australian plants including where possible our local Kurrajong trees, and maintaining the knoll into the future, we are making a significant contribution to the environment, especially within the Arboretum.
What difference are we making? One of the main goals of the Arboretum is to preserve bio-diversity, especially through the planting of 100 forests of trees from around the world most of which are threatened, endangered or extinct in the wild. We are very proud and excited about our long term partnership with our new friends, reflecting our team’s environmental sustainable values. It is expected that more than 36 generations will benefit from our fortnightly activity.
