The Kansas City center is approximately the area of Kansas City City Center and the area of Kansas City Memorial Hall.
Since Kansas City experiences the full range of the seasons, you can have a wildly different visit depending on when you arrive. Most tourists prefer to come to this city during the summer months because of the beautiful weather and the abundance of festivals on the calendar. Plus, pro sports offer plenty of entertainment options, and if you love streetcar racing, June, July, and August are the ideal times to visit.
However, tourist activity also surges during November and December. You'll never lack for shopping opportunities in Kansas City, so if you haven't made headway on your holiday shopping list, this is the place to start. Though the temperatures are on the cold side toward the end of the year, holiday lights and decorations turn the downtown district into a wonderland. Plus, the museums often lower the prices and have holiday specials, such as traveling exhibits and kid-friendly activities.
If you're hoping to enjoy mild weather, spring and fall present excellent opportunities for visiting the city. Autumn brings magnificent fall color to this town, which means plenty of eye candy no matter where you go. Warm days and cool nights offer the perfect balance if you're sensitive to heat and cold. However, make sure to pack a few layers just in case an early cold front blows through. In spring, you'll get to enjoy native Kansas flora in full bloom, but keep in mind that allergy sufferers might react negatively to the pollen in the air.
Chain hotels in Kansas City often offer the best (and most abundant) discounts. For instance, the Marriott mentioned above offers discounts for members of AAA, CAA, and AARP. You can also score a lower rate if you're over the age of 55 or traveling on a government contract. You'll also find AAA discounts at the local Oak Tree Inn, Comfort Inn & Suites, and Fairfield Inn & Suites.
If you want to take advantage of discounts, bring your proof to the check-in desk. For instance, if you're claiming an AAA discount, you'll need your current AAA card. Similarly, if you're snagging a discounted rate as a member of the U.S. military, make sure to bring your identification card. Some Kansas City hotels also run specials and discounts at specific times of year, so check into those when you make your reservations.
It's always nice to find a healthy balance between luxury and affordability. You'll find it in Kansas City, especially if you're willing to move away from the center of downtown in exchange for lower rates.
The Hilton Garden Inn Kansas City is one prime option. Room rates start at just $109 per night, and it's adjacent to the Reardon Convention Center if you're in town for an event. Amenities at this upscale hotel include an on-site restaurant, free wireless Internet, a fitness room and pool, free newspaper delivery, and a concierge desk. You'll love the modern furniture accented by both traditional and contemporary accents. Neutral color palettes keep the guest rooms relaxing, and high-end linens ensure a good night's sleep during your stay.
You might also enjoy a few nights at the Best Western Premier KC Speedway Inn & Suites. Room rates start at around $112 per night, which gets you access to features like free complimentary breakfasts, free Wi-Fi, free on-site parking, hot tubs, and 42-inch LCD televisions. The pillowtop mattresses allow you to rest in comfort between sightseeing activities, and you can connect your smartphone or tablet to the television to access movies, music, and other features. Plus, the Best Western isn't far from downtown, so you can hop in the car and set off for the day's activities without sacrificing half your time to driving.
Are you planning a trip to Kansas City? If so, you won't want to miss the city's fantastic entertainment destinations. Start with The Legends at Village West, an outlet mall that offers some of the best shopping in the city. In addition to outlet stores, you'll also find entertainment here, from Dave & Buster's to a movie theater. Make time for lunch at the T-Rex Cafe, a dining experience that features enormous dinosaurs that move (and make noise).
Next, head to the Schlitterbahn Kansas City Waterpark. You can keep your cool in the lazy river, cascade down twisting slides, or tread water in the wave pool. There are also roller coasters and other rides that kids and adults alike can enjoy. If you're visiting in the middle of summer, though, don't forget to bring sunscreen and to drink plenty of water.
You'll also want to see the Kansas Speedway. Whether you attend a NASCAR event or something a little smaller, you'll enjoy watching cars and other vehicles rip around the track. It's one of the most impressive facilities of its kind in the country, and races happen nearly every weekend during the summer. After your visit, have a delicious meal at the famous Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway.
Kansas City, Kansas, might share its name with another town, but there's plenty to set it apart. However, if you run out of things to do, you can always jump across the border and explore Kansas City, Missouri, attractions as well.
