The Mexico City center point is approximately 8 miles west of Parque Nacional Desierto de los Leones and 10 miles west of Ciudad de los Ninos.

Not only is Mexico City the capital of Mexico, but it's also the largest Spanish-speaking city in the world. As a city originally built by the Aztecs in 1325, it's one of the oldest capitals in the Americas. While almost completely destroyed in 1521, the basic layout of the ancient city was preserved when it was rebuilt. Today, the city is a mix of pre-Hispanic history and contemporary growth. When you're planning a trip to Mexico City to explore the culture, you'll want to find a hotel experience as special as the city itself. More from this guide...

When to Visit Mexico City, Mexico

If you're looking for great hotel deals in Mexico City, your best time to visit is between December and February. While you'll enjoy some of the cheapest hotel rates of the year, the tradeoff is that you'll also experience some of the coolest temperatures as well. January and February are the coolest months in Mexico City, with the lows averaging around 45 degrees Fahrenheit. However, the daytime highs are typically in the upper 60s or lower 70s, and the weather is usually sunny and pleasant.

On the other hand, if you visit Mexico City between the months of March and May, you'll enjoy some of the best weather the area has to offer. High temperatures average in the upper 70s, with little to no rain. Since the weather is so nice, visitors abound and hotel prices tend to be higher. If you plan to travel during that time, be sure to book your hotel room early so you're guaranteed a place to stay.

In Mexico City, the months between June and August are peak rainy season. During breaks in the rain, high temperatures hover around the mid- to high 70s. However, since the rain discourages a lot of visitors from traveling to the city during this time, hotels will offer slightly lower rates.

While the rainy season in Mexico City lasts until the end of October, traveling to the area in the months between September and November is popular thanks to some of the most famous festivals. Natives celebrate Mexican Independence Day on Sept. 16 and Day of the Dead on Nov. 1. Since these festivals attract crowds, hotels tend to raise rates during these months. Also, if you plan on traveling during those months, be sure to pack some warmer clothing items.

Best Discounts in Mexico City, Mexico

Whether you're looking for good savings or a special package, plenty of Mexico City hotels offer discounts. JW Marriott Hotel Mexico City gives AAA and CAA members discounts on everything from rooms to spa services. Marriott also offers a 15 percent discount to seniors who are 62 years or older. Even if you can't take advantage of the deals, you can still enjoy guest rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows to take in the city views, thick mattresses with cotton linens, and luxurious marble bathrooms.

If you're looking for a lovely escape in Mexico City, book the Romantic Getaway package at the Sheraton Santa Fe Hotel Mexico City. This package will give you a room upgrade, bottle of Cava, American breakfast for two, and dinner for two. Or you can book the Sheraton Breakfast package. This option will help you fuel up for a full day of exploring the city with a free full American breakfast each day of your stay.

Top Attractions in Mexico City, Mexico

With a history as long and varied as Mexico City's history, you'll discover countless attractions to explore as you learn more about the city. If you're interested in knowing more about Aztec history, choose a hotel near Museo del Templo Mayor. This ancient site was one of the main temples of the ancient capital city. View unearthed portions of two religious temples, and then head into the museum and view sculptures, figurines, clay pots, urns, skulls, masks, and knives also found at the site.

To take in some of the beauty of Mexico City, consider a hotel near Bosque de Chapultepec. At 1,695 acres, this is one of the largest urban parks in the Western Hemisphere. The park is divided into three sections and includes forests, lakes, monuments, museums, two amusement parks, restaurants, and the Chapultepec Zoo, Zoológico de Chapultepec.

Whether you're coming to the area to explore ancient history, or you want to enjoy Mexican cuisine and culture, Mexico City offers an experience for everyone. From affordable hotels that put you in the heart of the city to luxury hotels that offer some of the best comforts for travelers, Mexico City delivers an impressive variety of accommodations.

A visit to Mexico City Recapped

The world's second biggest city has been the cultural capital of Mexico. Its interesting history that started from 1325 can be seen in every corner. But what's more fascinating is its harmony with modern living amenities. From the floating gardens, stately buildings, soccer stadiums, high-end shopping centers to pulsating nightlife scene, you will find the city a haven whatever type of traveler you may be. The town was called City of Palaces due to its numerous imperial edifices including the La Catedral and the City Hall situated in Zocalo, one of the world's largest town squares. Ciudad Universitaria, Alameda and Paseo de la Reforma and Plaza Garibaldi-Mariachi are some other notable landmarks of Mexico City. The town holds the world-record of having the most number of museums so you better check a few of them if you can't go over all of them. Among the most popular are National Museum of Anthropology and the Templo Mayor Museum in Centro that holds a vast collection of Aztec relics. The city is into sports so you may want to participate in horse or car racing while you're in town. Watch a spectacular futbol game and cheer with the locals. End your day with a drink or two or dance the night away in its cool bars and pubs.

'For every little child, no matter where you're from, your dreams are valid- Lupita Nyong'o the Mexican born Kenyan actress once said.

The capital city of Mexico is known for being heavily populated, but over recent years with public spaces being improved, it has been attracting more visitors. There is much to see and do in this city, and a fascinating history to be explored. Mexico City hotels vary from the extremely cheap to the lavish and luxurious.

Low Cost Hotels in Mexico City

Cheap hotels are everywhere in Mexico City and there is a lot to choose from. Ibis has some of their cheap hotels in this city. One is Ibis Styles Mexico Zona Rosa which is in a great location for the budget traveler, as it's located just three minutes away from a metro station. As an Ibis hotel its rooms are clean and straightforward, making it the perfect base for those looking to do a lot of sightseeing in Mexico City. A slightly different option is the New York Hotel found in the heart of the downtown area. It's near to many of the important attractions and buildings. It offers basic rooms complete with bathrooms for a budget friendly price.

A Touch of Luxury

Hotel Catedral is close to a metro station and very centrally located. This four star hotel is a laid-back and casual option, offering a touch of luxury for visitors. As the name suggests the hotel is located near to the Cathedral, right behind it in fact! They provide a comfortable and safe environment for the business traveler and the tourist. Grand Fiesta Americana Chapultepec is a very modern and contemporary option for those looking at luxury hotels in Mexico City. It overlooks Chapultepec, which is an urban park, zoo and castle. The Four Seasons Mexico City is set in a colonial style building, close to the Museo Nacional de Antropología. There is a spa in the hotel which offers many different treatments to guests. The hotel is lavishly decorated with comfort at the forefront, and the 240 rooms are furnished beautifully. The InterContinental Presidente Mexico City is set in a very modern high rise building, spread over forty-two floors, meaning guests have stunning views over Chapultepec Park. Rooms are clean and comfortable and staff work hard to ensure that all of their guests have a good stay.

Boutique and Design Hotels

There are also many Mexico City hotels which are independently run. Las Alcobas is a premier boutique option for those preferring slightly different hotels in Mexico City. It is much smaller than the other luxury hotels, with thirty-five rooms which are custom designed to the highest standard. Rooms also come with rain showers and jacuzzis, meaning relaxation is easy at this hotel. The W Hotel Mexico City is another boutique option, which is located in a very chic neighbourhood, where one doesn't need to look far for great shops, nightlife and trendy art galleries. It has a variety of rooms, suites, and studios all decorated differently.

Our favorite visit was the History of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the temples. The thing I did not like was the pollution, especially around holidays because of the fireworks.

It is a city with a rich history, with many traces of the old Spanish conquistadors and Aztec culture still present. The Templo Mayor and Catedral Metropolitana are a must see when visiting. The nightlife has several options if you just want to sit at a bar and have a nice drink, of if you want to take it to the dance floor till the following day.
