When is the best time of year to visit Visit Juneau, AK?
If you're trying to narrow down the best time to visit Juneau, you need to decide on your priorities first. Summer is by far the most popular season to visit the city. From June through August, Juneau sees average high temperatures in the low to mid-60s. The days are also long: June 21, the summer solstice, sees 18 hours of sunlight, making it the longest day of the year. Since summer is a popular season for visitors, you won't find very many hotel deals in the area.
Fall is a short season in Juneau. September starts out with average highs in the upper 50s, but by November, the highs are only in the upper 30s. While you can find some good hotel deals in early fall after the summer crowds leave, keep in mind that September and October are the wettest months in Juneau, so you might need to pack a raincoat.
If you want the lowest hotel rates of the year, you'll have to plan your trip to Juneau in the winter. Since most people steer clear of Alaska during winter, hotels offer great deals on rates. Luckily, Juneau's winters are mild by Alaskan standards. Average highs from December to February are in the 30s, and the area sees around 87 inches of snowfall a season. Although many indoor attractions will close for winter, if you're interested in trying outdoor adventures like skiing and dog sledding, this is the season to visit. This is also the best time of year to see the Northern Lights.
Spring takes its time arriving in Juneau. March sees average highs in the 40s, but by May, those average high temperatures are in the upper 50s. However, if you plan your trip before the cruise ships start coming back toward the end of May, you can still find some good hotel deals.
