Welcome to Spokane
Sitting on the eastern edge of Washington, where the desert meets the Rockies, Spokane boasts more than its fair share of natural attractions and downtown wonders. Also known as the Lilac City, Spokane was featured in Outside Magazine's "Best Towns 2013" thanks to its closeness to the Little Spokane River, Deep Creek Canyon and Spokane River Gorge. Spokane, the second-largest city in Washington State, has a population of about 213,000 residents and growing. It is also home to the regional government, Fairchild Air Force Base and a selection of diverse dining opportunities.
Visitors in Spokane can experience the best of all seasons. During the summer, temperatures peak in the 90s and in the winter, lows drop to around the 20s, so you'll definitely need a jacket along with hats and gloves. The STA (Spokane Transit Authority) is a great way to get around the city, with access to downtown as well as the cities of Valley and Liberty Lake in the east. You can find bus route maps at a few stores and gas stations. If you want to drive, the Business Improvement District offers more than 9,000 off-street parking spaces. For locals, biking is a popular alternative.
