Camp Carson was established in 1942, following the attack on Pearl Harbor. The camp was named in honor of General "Kit" Carson, who was an early explorer of the West during the 1800s. In 1954, the camp formally became Fort Carson. With all that history, it's no wonder the base draws military and history buffs to the area.
