There are many historical places, particularly in the capital city and near to many of the Bintan hotels, which are worth exploring. Tanjung Pinang City is the largest city of the Riau Islands and is also the capital. As it's a port town and a major trade centre there is huge ethnic diversity here. The Colonial Graveyard is in Tanjung Pinang which is mostly in ruins now, but is an interesting glimpse into the history of the island and the Europeans who colonised it. Banyan Tree Temple is a 100 hundred year old temple located in Singgarang town which is nice to explore. The island also has a wide choice of beautiful beaches to relax on after sightseeing.
