St. Petersburg was designed with tourist satisfaction in mind. It is home to some of the best beaches and entertainment activities. One place you must visit is the Egmont Key State Park. This 392-acre refuge was established in 1974 to protect endangered wildlife and local animals. Today, it is home to sea turtles, tortoises, and endangered bird species. The island is also home to the remains of historic Fort Dade, which was used by the United States during the Spanish-American War. Tourists can view the coastal grasslands, sand beach dunes, and the coastal berm.
Fort De Soto Beach is another popular destination among tourists. On the Southern tip of St. Petersburg, Fort De Soto Beach is a 900-acre county park. This historic park includes five connected islands. The park is open year-round, allowing you to enjoy camping, bike, canoeing, nature trails, boating, and fishing any time of year. Head to the southernmost island for breathtaking views of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, the world's longet cable-stayed concrete bridge. Children will enjoy the tide pools and collecting seashells along the coastlines. Before you leave, spend some time exploring the coquina shell fort and the Quartermaster Museum to learn about the park's role in the Spanish-American War.
St. Petersburg is a year-round tourist destination with endless amounts of sunshine and warmth. Plan your trip for exciting attractions, beautiful weather, and interesting historical landmarks.
