North Carolina has an iconic barbecue scene influenced by German and Scotch-Irish immigrants. Sauces in the eastern part of the state are typically a simple vinegar and pepper affair, though some may have a tomato infusion. If you hail from the mustard-based states to the south, you'll find that a very different flavor prevails in North Carolina. The North Carolina Barbecue Society mapped out a Historic Barbecue Trail that stretches from Ayden and Greenville in the east across to Murphy in the westernmost part of the state.
Greenville's legend on the trail is B's Barbecue. The nondescript joint doesn't have a telephone or any set hours, but it's an essential stop if you want to queue up for some of the best barbecue in the state. Though not included on the official barbecue trail, other satisfying examples of great local BBQ are available at Parker's Barbecue and Sam Jones Wood-Fired Whole Hog BBQ.
If you're looking for Southern hospitality, a rich historic landscape, and ample arts and culture, you can't go wrong with a visit to Greenville, North Carolina. With a diverse selection of hotels ranging from budget finds to high-value options, you can find a room to suit any stay. Book your visit to eastern North Carolina now.
