Established in 1971
The inn first opened its doors in 1971 as the Thunderbird Motor Lodge on a
grassy hill near the downtown airport and the city's convention center. After a
fire destroyed the inn's main building the owners renovated and reopened as
The Phoenix Greenville's Inn.
For the next 20 years the Phoenix enjoyed popularity with both locals and
travelers to the Upstate. In 1995, the father-son owners had a vision to
transform what once was a typical old-fashioned motor lodge into an elegant,
welcoming atmos-phere for their guests. They turned that dream into reality
by furnishing the guest rooms with reproduction antique four poster beds and
fine linens. The lobby boasted original antiques and paintings, and the lounge
was adorned with over-stuffed chairs, a cozy fireplace and a baby grand piano.
They created a courtyard area with a gazebo and a veranda as a delightful
place to relax and wind down. The Phoenix Inn quickly became beloved for its
gracious hospitality and com-fortable surroundings.
